Programming the Craftsman garage door opener to work with new remotes is not at all complicated. The best part about it is that you can always reprogram the opener when you find it challenging to work with the old remote. This article will guide you on how to program old craftsman garage door openers.

How to Program Craftsman Garage Door Opener

There are various types of models of the Craftsman garage door opener. Also, there are many types of remotes. If you have the latest remotes such as premium and motion-detecting wall control remotes or universal remote, then the process will be quite straightforward. If you have an older model of the wall control unit or a button like a doorbell to operate the garage door, you will need to climb on the table or a ladder and reach the control panel on the motor unit of your Craftsman Garage Door Opener. Let’s see how do they work.

Step 1

Go to the garage and find a large box that helps the garage door to go up and down. Generally, this box is attached upside, under the roof or mounted inside the garage, near the door wall. Try to find a button at the backside of the mounted garage door opener. That button is the “Learn” button, and you will need to work with it.

Step 2

After getting the button, you need to press and release it. You will see that there will be light beside the button. When you press and then release the “Learn” button, that light will light up for about half a minute. If you see that light, do not do anything. You have to wait until the light shuts off.

Step 3

Once the light shuts off, now you have to press and hold down the top button on the garage door remote for a few seconds. You may find three buttons on some garage door remote. You can choose any of these three buttons. Just keep that button in your mind while working with the remote programming.

Step 4

Now you need to locate the “SRT” button on the backside of the mounted garage door opener. Once you find it, you will have to press it and hold that “SRT” button for some time. Here, you have to take care of one thing. Pressing and holding the “SRT” button should be done quickly, especially at the time when you are holding down the other button of the garage door remote.

Step 5

You are almost there. Wait for some time so that the indicator light on the garage door opener starts to flash. It will not take much time and just a few seconds. When the light flashes, you should take it as an indication that your garage door opener has been appropriately programmed. Now it will also work with the remote. If there is no light or the light bulbs are not installed, you will hear the sound of two clicks.

Note: Repeat the entire process for any additional remotes you would like to use.
